MAX Xtreme Fighting has announced plans to stage the inaugural MAX Grand Prix to find the first true European MMA champions. he MAX Grand Prix will unify the various MMA events across Europe to legitimately prove who are the best fighters in three weight categories. The unique event will produce three recognised champions who will battle it out across three countries in three separate shows.
A total of eight mixed martial arts fighters will be invited to fight in each of the three weight categories; lightweight, welterweight and light heavyweight. These men will compete over three shows with one in each weight class becoming the Grand Prix Champion. The Champions will need to defend their titles on an annual basis or step down before the next tournament.
Johnny Burrows, MAX Xtreme Fighting spokesman, said as none of the title holders will be tied into any contract, the European MAX Grand Prix is open to every MMA fighter.
He said: “As it stands there is no legitimate title outside the UFC for the best European fighters. Every show and every promoter has its own champions but we want to really prove who the best of the best is in Europe.
“This competition is open to any fighter and holds no contractual obligations. We think it is time to have a unified and recognised title.
“This is of no disrespect to other shows that have belts, but the sheer volume there are confuses the big promoters moving into Europe.
“The MAX Grand Prix Champion is a title where there can be no doubt in your ability on the worldwide stage.”
To apply each fighter must present their credentials to be considered for the competition. They will be judged on their fight record and calibre of opponents to determine their position in the rankings, with the top eight being invited to compete.
